Interview Questions Bank

The most common interview questions across HR, behavioral, situational and closing rounds — with guidance on how to answer each one. Study these before any interview.

Classic HR / Opener Questions

Tell me about yourself.

How to answer: Keep it to 90 seconds. Focus on your recent experience, top 2 strengths, and why you're excited about this role. Never recite your resume.

Why do you want to work here?

How to answer: Mention a specific product, mission, or recent news. Show you've researched. Connect it to your career goals.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

How to answer: Align with the role's growth trajectory. Show ambition but not arrogance. Don't say 'I want your job.'

What is your greatest weakness?

How to answer: Pick a real weakness you've actively worked on. Explain what you did to improve. Never say 'I'm a perfectionist.'

Behavioral (STAR Method)

Tell me about a time you failed.

How to answer: Choose a real failure. Show self-awareness, what you learned, and what you changed afterwards. The learning matters more than the failure.

Describe a time you disagreed with a manager.

How to answer: Show you can advocate for your perspective professionally and accept decisions gracefully. Never badmouth the manager.

Give me an example of handling a difficult team member.

How to answer: Show empathy first, then action. Explain the outcome — ideally positive for both the project and the relationship.

Tell me about your biggest achievement at work.

How to answer: Quantify the impact whenever possible: 'I reduced processing time by 40%' beats 'I improved the process.'

Situational / Case Questions

How would you handle conflicting priorities?

How to answer: Explain your prioritisation framework: impact, urgency, stakeholder alignment. Give a real example if you can.

You're given an impossible deadline. What do you do?

How to answer: Show negotiation skills: clarify scope, communicate risks early, propose alternatives, and document decisions.

Your project is behind schedule. How do you recover?

How to answer: Diagnose root cause first. Re-scope, bring in resources, or negotiate the deadline — explain how you'd communicate to stakeholders.

Closing Questions

Do you have any questions for us?

How to answer: Always ask at least 2 smart questions: 'What does success look like in the first 90 days?' or 'What are the team's biggest technical challenges right now?'

What are your salary expectations?

How to answer: Research market rate first. Give a range anchored 10–15% above your target. Say 'I'm flexible depending on the full package.'

Why should we hire you over other candidates?

How to answer: Be specific: name 2–3 concrete strengths that match the job description exactly. Don't be generic about being 'hardworking.'
